Spectating on Safari

Prologue Spectator Guide - Take the Great Eastern Highway from Perth then the Great Southern Highway, Turn Right into Yarra Road, then follow the Spectator map to the Spectator location.

The Safari is a secret course event and as such we only publish competition spectating details the day before competitor arrival.

 Spectating will be available for the general public on the following days:

Saturday 1st August 2009

Mundaring Prologue

Spectator maps and instructions will be posted on the website site the day before the prologue. Estimated commencement time is 8.30 am.

Catch all the action at the official spectator point in Mundaring for the 2009 Australasian Safari prologue. Watch the competitors as they race for their place seeding. Please note that this is a bush spectating point setting with no facilities.

City of Perth Ceremonial Start and Safari Show

Russel Square, Northbridge.
Safari Show commences at 4.00 pm
Ceremonial Start commences at 6.00 pm.

Come and meet the competitors, check out the machines and wish them well as the start their Safari adventure for 2009.

Sunday 2nd August - Geraldton Arrival

Welcome the competitors and crews into the Geraldton after the first day of competition.

Monday 3rd August 2009 - Mt Magnet Arrival

Welcome the competitors and crews into Mt Magnet at the end of Leg 2.

When    First Competitor due 1.30 pm

 Tuesday 4th August 2009 - Leonora Arrival

Welcome the competitors and crews into Leonora after the completion of Leg 3, one of the longest in the event.

 Wednesday 5th August 2009 - Laverton Arrival 1

Welcome the competitors and crews into Laverton after the completion of Leg 4.

 Thursday 6th August 2009 - Laverton Arrival 2

Welcome the competitors and crews back into Laverton after one of the toughest days of the event.

 Friday 7th August 2009- Kalgoorlie Arrival

Welcome the competitors and crews into Kalgoorlie at the end of Leg 6.

 Saturday 8th August 2009 - Kalgoorlie Spectator Point

Catch all of the action on the final day of Safari. Details will guide you to a spectator point not that far from Kalgoorlie to see the surviving crews complete the last day of competition. Please note that this is a bush spectating point setting with no facilities.

 Details for the Kalgoorlie Spectator point will be published on Friday the 7th August on this site.

 Saturday 8th August 2009 - Kalgoorlie Ceremonial Finish

Welcome the competitors to the Ceremonial Finish. Celebrate with them as they cross the finish line and of course the obligatory champagne spray.

WARNING! MOTOR SPORT CAN BE DANGEROUS - PLEASE OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING GUIDE.

If you are a Resident of a town or property through which the Safari passes, please read the following information. The Roads will be closed by the Event Zero and / Double Zero cars. Do not move onto the road until after the SWEEP car has passed. Please note that there may be gaps between competitors.

ALWAYS
- Always STAY ALERT! The unexpected may happen.
- Always wait until the Sweep passes your location before moving onto or across the road or track as there may have been a delay in the passage of the competing cars or bikes.
- Always stand where you can see the competing cars coming and going.
- Always leave yourself room to move away quickly.
- Always keep children under constant and close supervision.
- Always keep animals on a lead.
- If necessary the Safari Stage will not start, or continue, until the course is safe and instructions are obeyed!

NEVER
- Never stand or sit close to the edge of the road
- Never stand below the level of the road (or in gutters or culverts)
- Never stand in run-off (escape) routes for the competitors
- Never sit down at a location on the same level as the cars - you need to be standing so that you are able to move away quickly if ...necessary
- Never stand behind the red and white striped tape
- Never stand in front of arrows or signs relevant to the running of the event
- Never be distracted - always face the competitors
- Never stand on or cross the road while it is officially closed
- Never play games with your safety, or with that of the competitors

Use the diagrams below to ensure safe viewing in areas outside designated spectator points. No standing areas are shown with stripes. For your safety be aware and always follow any Officials' directives.
